One time, when we were kids, my friend and I were playing the Yu-Gi-Oh card game, and I was whooping his ass, and he had accepted that he was going to lose, but decided to go out with a bang, so right before he drew, he shouted “I put my faith in the heart of the cards!” and wound up drawing the one card in his deck that would completely derail my strategy and he actually won that duel and that’s why I don’t laugh at these things anymore.

When you look around at the six people that you spend the most time with, that’s who you are. I think that in making those decisions in who you are going to be married to, who your friends are going to be, those are really huge, critical, life decisions. Who gets to talk to you everyday, is almost like the food that you eat. It is a very huge critical situation to choose who the people are that you are spending your life with, spending your time with and who you are choosing to give your love and everything to. Now Playing:  Lady Gaga & Beyonce “Telephone”

Watch this video and remind yourself how epic it is.  In hindsight, it’s even more amazing that the two biggest popstars on the planet were both humble and congenial enough to work on a song together (more than one song, actually).  Could you imagine Janet & Madonna teaming up on anything in 1995?  Because that’s the level of fame and star power we’re talking here.

I think my favorite thing about this whole project is how the two of them managed to influence each other.  I don’t think anybody other than Lady Gaga could have gotten Beyonce – she of such tightly held reigns over her image – to step out of her box and look a little crazy in a video.  Not only that, but she is doing choreography in Lady Gaga’s style.  Who other than Stefani Germanotta could get Beyonce to not dance like Beyonce?!  And then Beyonce’s verse is just so very Queen Bey in the middle of Gaga’s production, like she stepped in for a minute, took over completely, and then handed the reigns back.

Lady Gaga has said she hates this video (other than how fabulous she and Beyonce look in it) but honestly I would pick this one over “Bad Romance” or “Judas” or any of her other epics.  There’s so much in here from the story to the styling to the choreography, and then the song is just a great pop song even without the visuals.

This was such a moment.  I love big pop culture moments.  I want more of these.

i stanned for this video. i still do.
